Was ist Model United Nations (MUN)?

Die Bedeutung sozialer Kompetenzen und Selbstmanagement ist für junge Menschen heute größer als je zuvor. Während des Studiums kommt die praktische Auseinandersetzung mit dem theoretisch erarbeiteten Stoff oft zu kurz. Model United Nations (MUN) setzt genau hier an: anstatt nur theoretisch über die Vereinten Nationen und über internationale Beziehungen zu lehren, erlaubt es Studierenden, internationale Beziehungen zu erleben.  Dadurch, dass das Seminar interdisziplinär aufgebaut ist, ermöglicht es Studierenden auch den Kontakt zu anderen Fakultäten.

Durch dir Vorbereitungsseminare und die anschließende Teilnahme an MUN-Simulationen lernen die studentischen Delegierten hautnah das diplomatische Alltagsleben kennen, müssen schwierige Verhandlungsprozesse mit tausenden Studierenden aus allen Teilen der Welt meistern und eignen sich so interkulturelle Kompetenz an. Diplomatisches Geschick, selbstbewusstes Auftreten und umfassendes Wissen der UN und des Themas sind nötig, um bei den auf Englisch stattfindenden Verhandlungen bestehen zu können.

Durch eine Teilnahme am MUN-Programmen erwerben Studierende jene Schlüsselqualifikationen, die im Berufsleben gefragt sind: gewinnende Rhetorik, Verhandlungsgeschick, zielorientiertes Auftreten, interkulturelle Kompetenzen, Organisationsvermögen, Zeitmanagement, Selbstvertrauen und Fähigkeiten zur Einschätzung der eigenen Person sowie Verhandlungspartner und Situationen.

 

 

What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

The importance of social competences and soft skills continues to grow. In most courses of study, the possibility to apply theoretical knowledge is small. This is where FAUMUN differs. Instead of only conveying theoretical knowledge about the United Nations, it allows students to experience international relations firsthand. Moreover, as the seminar is interdisciplinary, it also allows students to increase their contact with students from other faculties.

The preparatory program and the subsequent participation in MUN simulations allow students to discover the every day life of diplomats, to negotiate with thousands of students from all over the world and to acquire intercultural competences. Negotiations, which all take place in English, require diplomatic skill, confident appearance and extensive knowledge of both the subject matter and the inner workings of the UN.

MUN allows students to acquire soft skills that are in great demand in any professional life: good rhetoric, negotiation skills, intercultural competences, organizational skills, time management, self confidence and the capability to assess oneself as well as negotiation partners and difficult situations.
