FAUMUN 2026 – Negotiation Training
Negotiation gets complicated fast and our annual FAUMUN training proved exactly that. What begins as a simple exchange quickly turns into a mix of interests, expectations and strategies. To prepare us for these moments, the FAUMUN Team organized a hands-on workshop that allowed us to experience negotiation form different angles and with increasing levels of difficulty.
Starting the day, Chris gave a short presentation on practical negotiation strategies. He introduced techniques that can help influence outcomes and handle challenging conversations more effectively.
We began our training with a short partner exercise that looked harmless at first: splitting two imaginary dollars. But the twist came quickly, each of us received a secret card with a personal condition or a small character background that shaped what we needed from the negotiation. Suddenly, a two-dollar deal became a test of communication, adaptability and understanding hidden motives.
After this warm-up, we moved into the main simulation of the day: the Miranda Fashion Inc. scenario. As delegates, we stepped into roles such as exporting countries, Red Pickax (an NGO), consumer protection groups, the domestic fashion industry and the European Commission and Miranda Fashion Inc itself. Competing priorities, economic viewpoints and ethical concerns all shaped the negotiation.
By the end of the training, we gained valuable insights into how quickly negotiations can shift and how important it is to stay flexible, ask the right questions and work toward solutions that acknowledge multiple perspectives. The day prepared us for the challenges ahead and strengthened the skills we will bring to upcoming conferences.
